1 How successful are you in helping Canadians sell their homes?
We have helped more than 50,000 Canadians successfully sell their homes since becoming a full-service real estate brokerage*. The real keys to selling a home are simple: you’ve got to ensure that the property is priced right for current market conditions and that your listing gets maximum exposure. Our combination of market expertise and exposure on REALTOR.ca and Purplebricks.ca, two of the best real estate websites in Canada, provides these cornerstones of a successful sale. On top of all that, our team of real estate professionals is dedicated to your success from start to sold.
In 2020, we...
- - Sold 1 home every 2 hours – that’s 4,600 homes sold!
- - Those 4,600 homes resulted in saving Canadians over $59 million in commission**
- - Which means our home sellers saved thousands in commission!
- - And we cannot forget the homebuyers - we gave them over $1.5 million*** in cash back!
*Based on homes sold from Jan. 1, 2020 to Dec. 31, 2020.
**Average savings based on a commission of 5% in Ontario and Manitoba and 7%/3% in Alberta, less a buyer agent commission estimated at 2.5% in Ontario, 2% in Manitoba and 3.5%/1.5% in Alberta, taking into account fees paid to Purplebricks and applicable taxes, from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
***Total cash back given to clients who were represented by Purplebricks for the purchase of a home between January 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020.
2 How does selling my home with Purplebricks work?
Purplebricks makes selling your home simple – get a full-service real estate experience, for thousands less. First you'll have your listing appointment with a local REALTOR®. At the appointment your home will be photographed, you'll review an in-depth Comparative Market Analysis, and set the right sale price for your home. After your listing appointment, our team will manage all the incoming calls about your home and arrange showings for potential buyers. All negotiations and paperwork are handled by our dedicated Offer and Negotiation Team. And the result? Your home sold while you saved thousands in commission! Purplebricks saved Canadian home sellers over $59 million in commission in 2020*.

3 Will I get the same visibility with Purplebricks that I get with another brokerage?
With technology today, most homebuyers are starting their own home searches online. Almost all buyers are searching on REALTOR.ca, Canada’s most popular real estate platform, and sending a list of homes they want to see to their agent. Unlike the past when listings were only visible to REALTORS®, the public has access to view any listing on Realtor.ca. All of Purplebricks’ listings are on Realtor.ca, and are also posted on Purplebricks.ca, which got more than 27 million visits in 2020!*

4 How does Purplebricks get me the best price for my home?
Our local REALTORS® are well-informed about your market – they’re constantly studying market conditions because they provide complete Comparative Market Analyses for each of the hundreds of properties they list in a year. They know what’s currently on the market, what has sold, what’s not selling, and how prices are trending at any given time, so your home will be priced to be both on-point and competitive!
5 How long will my house be on the market if I use Purplebricks?
The brokerage listing a property doesn’t have much to do with the length of time it spends on the market. The three main influencers of how long it takes to sell are: if a maximum number of buyers can easily find it online (great advertising on Purplebricks.ca and REALTOR.ca helps!), if it’s priced right (see the previous question!), and if it shows well. We’ve also designed our processes for the utmost efficiency: with our Offer and Negotiation service and our use of digital sign-back technology, you can rest assured that everything will be handled with lightning speed. In fact, we have hundreds of testimonials from clients who were thrilled to sell much faster than they’d expected!
6 How do Purplebricks real estate agents compare to agents from other brokerages?
Our agents are members of the Canadian Real Estate Association (meaning they’re accredited REALTORS®) and belong to many of the same real estate boards as other agents, giving them access to all the same information about your market. In fact, many of our agents used to work for more conventional brokerages but wanted to spend less time in the office and more time working with clients. And because each of our agents is dedicated to one area of either the selling or buying process, they’ve got tons of experience and are exceptional at what they do! Our listing agents list an average of 300 homes per year in their local markets, our Offer and Negotiation agents specialize in negotiations and close hundreds of deals every year, and our Home Buying agents help families across the country find and purchase their dream homes every day! Add on leading-edge technologies to make serving clients faster and more efficient, and you’re looking at a powerful team that’s sure to impress.
7 Will Purplebricks help me with my asking price?
You can be sure of it. Purplebricks agents live and work in your local market and scour the data every day to know what’s selling and what’s not. After we’ve seen your home’s unique qualities through a virtual appointment, we’ll provide you with a customized Comparative Market Analysis and pricing strategy to help you reach your unique selling goals. And even though you’re saving thousands of dollars in commission, that doesn’t mean you have to sell for less than you would with any other brokerage: we price your home according to its market value, not according to our fee structure.
8 Do I have to do everything myself?
Not at all! Our team of local REALTORS® and real estate professionals are working for you at every step of your sale. Once you’ve had your listing appointment, our Customer Support team is here to help with any questions you may have. Our Showings team will manage all the details of setting up showings of your home, and when an offer comes in, the Offer and Negotiation team that specializes in this part of the sale will ensure you get the best offer!
A misconception about Purplebricks is that we are a DIY real estate brokerage, or that we are FSBO (For Sale By Owner) to use real estate industry jargon. Purplebricks is a full-service real estate brokerage, much like other real estate brokerages. What sets us apart is our business model that allows us to charge $3,499 to sell your home, rather than a percentage of your home’s value. Whether your home is $400,000 or $4 million, our fees never change.
In most circumstances, you will also pay a commission to a buyer's agent. Last year, our Canadian home sellers saved an average of $12,800!Δ
ΔAverage savings based on a commission of 5% in Ontario and Manitoba and 7%/3% in Alberta, less a buyer agent commission estimated at 2.5% in Ontario, 2% in Manitoba and 3.5%/1.5% in Alberta, taking into account fees paid to Purplebricks and applicable taxes, from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020.
9 How can you charge so little? What’s the catch?
No catch! We provide in-house marketing and advertising services to our real estate agents so they don’t have to spend their valuable time looking for new clients – that eliminates their individual marketing costs and frees up their time to take on more clients. Our cutting-edge technology also allows them to focus on their homebuyers and sellers, while a centralized team gathers leads and provides customer support – that cuts out the need to pay for multiple traditional branch offices. All told, these differences allow us to pass on impressive cost savings to our customers.
10 Why does Purplebricks use a team-based approach?
At Purplebricks, we truly are a team. Each member has a dedicated role that allows our business to run like a well-oiled, commission-saving machine. Each of our local REALTORS® is a specialist in their designated area, whether it be listing a home for sale, handling negotiations and offers, or finding Canadians their dream home.
Lead generation, customer support and marketing are all handled by our centralized team supporting our local REALTORS®. This allows them to focus on what they do best - interact with home sellers and buyers. Read more about our team-based approach.
11 Does Purplebricks cooperate with other REALTORS®?
Purplebricks is proud to cooperate with REALTORS® from other brokerages. Just because our pricing structure is different than most brokerages, doesn’t mean we think buyers’ agents shouldn’t be paid. This is a big misconception about Purplebricks.
Many of our REALTORS® worked at other brokerages prior to joining the Purplebricks team, so they know the importance of cooperating commission in relation to an agent’s livelihood. Plus, we know that offering a cooperating commission helps get buyers through the door, so we encourage our sellers to offer a competitive commission for their area. Now that being said, we allow our home sellers to decide if they want to offer cooperating commission or not. Read more about cooperating commission.
12 How do your agents get paid?
Our business model allows each of our REALTORS® to hundreds of listings per year, compared to the single- or double-digit number of deals the average REALTOR® completes. How can our REALTORS® do so many deals each year? Because we have in-office staff who handle lead generation, customer support, and marketing. A typical real estate agent spends most of his time soliciting while our REALTORS® get to do what they do best each and every day - interact with home sellers and buyers!
So, just as it’s important to provide incredible savings and outstanding service to our clients, equally important is caring for our amazing team. That’s why we offer our experienced real estate agents enhanced compensation packages for a job well done. They also enjoy paid vacations, substantial benefits packages, and we cover all their professional fees and dues. Happy employees make happy clients, and everybody wins.
13 Did Purplebricks used to be ComFree?
Yes! In July 2018, Purplebricks acquired ComFree, and on January 8, 2019, we took a bold step toward our future as a Canadian real estate giant, shedding our signature shade of upstart green and donning the cool, confident purple of the international real estate powerhouse, Purplebricks. The same great team that was dedicated to our customers at ComFree has embarked on this new, incredible journey to bring our innovative approach to real estate to more customers across Canada.
